Weather delay may help injury-laden Wolves

Injuries forced the BMCC softball team to pull out of the April 21-22 NWAACC Crossover Tournament. And now, Mother Nature has again forced the Lady Timberwolves to change play dates.

This time, however, the postponement is viewed by the T-Wolves as a positive.

“It’s an extra day’s rest and this team needs that,” said BMCC coach Tom Mauldin. “I’ve never seen a team with so many injuries.”

Heavy rains rendered BMCC’s softball field unplayable on the 27th. The locals will host Yakima on April 28 (noon and 2 p.m.), and league leading Wenatchee April 29 at 12:30 p.m.

The injury list includes: Kendal Weber (recovering from a sprained thumb), Kerica Cusick (broken hand), Chyenne Carter (hamstring), Page Woodward (quads - yep, both of them), Cheyenne Friend (back and shoulder), Stephanie Figueroa (left wrist and lower back), Cassie Hernandez (knee), and Megan Alexander (knee, elbow and ankle).

Not on the injury list, but missing from practice the last two days due to illness was Paige Aldred.

“With a 13-player roster, that doesn’t leave many healthy ones,” said Mauldin. “ And certainly limits what we can do at practice. We had a coaches’ meeting and ultimately decided to go as light as possible in fear of additional injuries. We’ll try to do a little more Friday in preparation for the weekend games.”

Cusick, who was batting .344 before breaking her left hand, had hoped to get her cast removed on April 25th, but doctors said “two more weeks.” She may be able to play in the season-ending double header hosting Treasure Valley on May 12.
