Inclement Weather

Sometimes, inclement weather, particularly during winter months, can cause delays or closures of BMCC locations. BMCC would like to make sure that everyone understands where they can find information should inclement weather require that class and business operations be altered at any of our locations.

Weather Delay or Closure Process

Since BMCC covers a wide region, each of our locations can have a different decision made. While BMCC consults with school districts regarding the decisions they make — and BMCC will sometimes follow suit — BMCC is not required to make the same decision as the school districts. School districts are often dealing with buses, which have a different set of challenges. Besides consulting with schools, BMCC relies on its maintenance crew for guidance. They arrive at campus and the Hermiston Center at 5 a.m. to evaluate road and facility conditions, and whether or not they can have the location’s parking lots and sidewalks cleared in time for classes to begin. Finally, BMCC also consults with Center Directors, who make recommendations for their specific locations. Ultimately, employees and students have the final say on if they go to work or school. Even if the campus is open, anyone not comfortable driving in can make the decision to stay home (student employees may make arrangements with their supervisor to make up time).

BMCC makes the best decisions it can with the information it has in the morning. Decisions are made by 5:45 a.m. so that notifications can be made to employees, students and local media by 6 a.m.
