Students can request services at anytime but must register with Admissions and Advising (see contact information above) to receive accommodations. They are expected to provide appropriate documentation of their disabilities. All assistance is arranged on an individual basis. Disabilities commonly include hard of hearing, low vision, mobility impairments and learning disabilities, attention disorders and psychological disabilities.
Accessibility at BMCC
Blue Mountain Community College is committed to providing equal access to all students through the removal of architectural and attitudinal barriers. Considerable remodeling of facilities on our campus has occurred and providing services to students with disabilities is an important goal at BMCC. Faculty and staff are informed, understanding, and supportive of equal access to our institution. Where necessary, ramps have been installed, a lift has been installed, sidewalks have been modified, and a number of other projects to eliminate barriers have been undertaken.
BMCC's Policy Statement On Disability Access
It is the policy of Blue Mountain Community College to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended in the Workforce Investment Act), the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (as amended) and other applicable federal and state regulations that prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability. Compliance means that no otherwise qualified person shall, solely by reason of disability, be denied access to, participation in, or the benefits of, any service, program or activity operated by BMCC. Each qualified person shall receive reasonable accommodation/modification needed to ensure equal access to employment, educational opportunities, programs and activities in the most appropriate, integrated setting, except when such accommodation creates undue hardship on the part of the provider.
BMCC Faculty & Staff Education Resources
BMCC provides access to the interactive education application "In Their Shoes" (To access the college data, use College ID: bmccshoes) that brings a higher level of awareness of what it is like to have a disability and the various ways they can assist students with disabilities at all our BMCC locations.
