BMCC’s Friend earns East Region All-Star honor

Freshman Cheyenne Friend was named to the NWAACC’s East Region All-Star team for her outstanding performance during the 2012 softball season.

Friend was the East Region’s number four leading hitter with a .446 batting average and tied for fourth in home runs with eight. Both were BMCC team highs. She also led the Timberwolves with 28 runs batted in. She played 30 games and scored 29 runs.

“She certainly earned it,” said BMCC coach Tom Mauldin. “She excelled at shortstop and in the outfield.”

Friend started the season as BMCC’s shortstop, but injured her back early in the league season and missed eight games. When she returned, she was moved to center for a dozen games. She finished the season at shortstop.

“Her numbers were very good, even with missing a quarter of the league season,” said Mauldin. Friend also had nine doubles. “Her success is based upon her outstanding work ethic. She works hard all the time.”

Friend, from Redmond (Ore.), has signed to return for her sophomore season at BMCC.
