Position Summary

Provides academic and admissions advising services to students.  Perform all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Vision and Strategic Plan.  Conforms to the college’s guiding principles.

Essential Function

Works one-on-one or in groups to advise students about BMCC courses, programs, admissions process, testing procedures, and other admissions and student support programs.

Remains up-to-date on all BMCC programs, degrees, certificates and related admissions, testing, disability accommodation, and student support programs to ensure students have the information they need to make informed decisions.

Interprets placement test scores for students and uses that information to guide advising recommendations when advising students into courses.

Assists students with the process of applying for and receiving financial aid.

Follows college and program guidelines when recommending courses and degree plans.

Attends unit meetings and maintains regular contact with unit members.

Acts as liaison between the various parties both internal and external to the unit to exchange the information needed to improve and maintain effective student communication related to advising, admissions, testing, accommodation, financial aid and related functions.

Assists with degree check-offs, audits and graduation applications, if requested.

If located somewhere other than Pendleton, will act as the local Enrollment Management expert and assist local personnel in understanding unit needs and requests.

Other duties as assigned.

Requires excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Must be able to receive and convey ideas effectively.

Requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of people and must be comfortable working with a variety of people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Must be creative and possess strong analytical skills.

Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Prefer 2-4 years of work experience in advising, or equivalent experience, preferably in higher education.

Other Aspects of the Position

Requires travel on occasion for department meetings and related college business.

Requires a flexible schedule to meet student needs.
