Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) seeks a president familiar with and appreciative of rural values, and committed to enhancing the educational, economic, and cultural quality of life of the residents of eastern Oregon. Established in 1962, BMCC is a comprehensive institution with an annualized FTE of about 2,000, and a total headcount of approximately 7,400 students. BMCC offers 80 associate degree and certificate programs.
THE CULTURAL SETTING
BMCC’s main campus is located in Pendleton, Ore. (population 17,000), about 200 miles equidistant from Portland, Ore.; Spokane, Wash.; and Boise, Idaho. The nearest metropolitan area is 65 miles away. BMCC serves students in four center locations, as well as two sites in neighboring counties. The economy of the five-county service area (18,000 square miles) primarily depends on agriculture, but also has a growing technology industry. BMCC is proud of its strong relationships with the 21 school districts in its service area, and robust early college credit offerings.
BMCC’s constituents come from diverse backgrounds, are proud of their rural values, traditions, educational, cultural and recreational activities, and close-knit relationships with the College. BMCC‘s next president will genuinely engage, respect, and embrace the local populace and its culture, while simultaneously looking for ways to ensure future regional prosperity. The President a is high-visibility, community pillar position, and is expected to participate in college activities, community events and support local establishments.
