I was born and raised in the Northwest. Walla Walla was my home until I was 18 when I married and began travelling around the US and other countries as a military wife. I lived in Texas for 11 ½ years and while there, I returned to school, studying at Texas Southmost College and Pan American University (University of Texas). I became interested in education and vowed to become a fine arts instructor for middle schoolers.
After finishing my two year degree in Texas, however, I moved back to the Northwest where I was introduced to Head Start and became enamored with Early Childhood Education. I began work with Head Start in 1981 and worked in the classroom as a teacher assistant and then teacher in three different Head Start programs until 1990 when I started my stint as an administrator. I worked as the Education Coordinator and then Education and Disabilities Director for Umatilla Morrow County Head Start until I resigned from that position in 2004. I returned briefly to Head start to work as a Family Services worker and Home Visitor until finally retiring.
During my time with Head Start I also worked summers in a child care wrangling a classroom of two year olds. I also worked as a consultant for Oregon Child Development Coalition and acted as a reviewer for Head Start, travelling the country to observe and evaluate Head Start programs. Additionally, I became affiliated with Blue Mountain Community College as a part time ECE instructor, in 2002.
While I worked in Early Childhood Education I continued my education, finishing my BA in Human Development with ECE in 1991 from Pacific Oaks College and MS in ECE Special Education from the University of Oregon in 1995.
Currently, I keep myself busy with my husband, three dogs, one cat, our children, six grandsons and four great grandchildren (two boys and two girls). I still act as a trainer for Child Care Resource and Referral from time to time and continue as a part time instructor in ECE at Blue Mountain Community College and have recently taken up school bus driving in Morrow County.
