BMCC Board adds support to Hermiston Schools bond

Post Date:09/06/2019 11:08 AM

The Blue Mountain Community College Board of Education added its support for the Hermiston School District’s construction bond to make room for ongoing student enrollment growth.

The Board voted Thursday in support of Measure 30-130, which Hermiston area voters will decide on in November.

If approved, the bond would raise $82.7 million and fund the construction of two new elementary schools, a high school annex, and the acquisition of property. Passage of the bond would also allow the school district to receive $6.6 million in additional state funding.

“BMCC is interested in lifting the level of education in every community it serves,” said Don Rice, a BMCC Board Member who represents Zone 5 in Hermiston. “The Hermiston School District is a valuable partner for BMCC, and we wish them well as they work to give their K-12 students the best education available.”

The bond would add capacity at the elementary and high school levels.  The City of Hermiston and Northeast Oregon Home Builders Association have also voted to support the measure.
