Feves Gallery exhibit to feature Oregon landscape painter
The Betty Feves Memorial Art Gallery will feature the work of Richard Thompson, a landscape painter from Dayton, Ore., in “Home Grown,” opening Thursday, April 4, with an opening reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The event is free, family-friendly, and will include light refreshments. There will be an Artist Talk with Thompson at about 5 p.m.
Thompson spent the last decade exploring the rural, agricultural landscape of the West with its “distant horizons, far away mountains, geometric field patterns and farm buildings seen as if they are still life elements on a wide, vast table,” Thompson explains on his website.
Thompson has participated in two Portland Biennials, and has work in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Musuem, Hallie Ford Museum, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, and the Maryhill Museum, among others.
Thompson grew up in the Willamette Valley on a small farm. Following a 40-year academic and creative career, Thompson returned to Oregon to live and work his family’s remaining farm property. He converted a farm building into his studio, and he lives in the original farmhouse, bringing his “Oregon childhood landscape and my mature creative career” full circle, he said. More information can be found on Thompson’s website, http://richardthompsonart.com/.
Families are always encouraged to bring their children to the Feves Gallery, and the Gallery also offers field trips at no cost to schools, and is happy to work with teachers on related projects.
“’Home Grown’ is wonderful exhibit for younger audiences with its colors and relatable subject matter,” said Lori Sams, Director of the Betty Feves Memorial Art Gallery.
The exhibit at the Feves Gallery runs April 4 through May 2, 2019. The Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and by appointment by calling 541-278-5952. The Feves Gallery is located in Pioneer Hall on the Blue Mountain Community College campus in Pendleton, 2411 NW Carden Ave.
The Betty Feves Memorial Art Gallery is a non-profit exhibit space connecting emerging and established artists and their work with students, staff and the general public in eastern Oregon.
