Post Date:10/04/2018 8:23 AM

Connie GreenThe BMCC Board of Education on Wednesday evening hired retired Tillamook Bay Community College President Dr. Connie Green as the College’s Interim President. Green will serve in the interim leadership role while the College conducts a national search to replace outgoing President Cam Preus, who has accepted the Executive Director position at the Oregon Community College Association in Salem.

“Dr. Green’s strong background as a community college president, leadership coach and in workforce development will help to bring continuity to BMCC as we search for our next leader,” said Board of Education Chair Chris Brown. “BMCC has maintained strong relationships over the years with the 16 other Oregon community colleges, so we are familiar with Dr. Green’s leadership and experience. Therefore, the Board is very comfortable bringing Dr. Green in to assist us through this transition.”

Green holds a Ph.D. in Education, Policy and Planning from the University of Oregon. Her work experience includes six and a half years as president at TBCC, two years as a policy advisor for the state’s Community College and Workforce Development, and 30 years at Chemeketa Community College in Salem in increasing leadership responsibility from faculty member to dean to Chief Information Officer. She retired from TBCC in 2017.

Some BMCC employees are familiar with Green, as she was contracted to facilitate the College’s strategic planning process in 2014.

Preus’s last day at BMCC is Oct. 31, but due to prior commitments, Green will not begin her interim role until Nov. 15. During that two-week gap, the Board appointed Vice President of Student Affairs Diane Drebin as “acting” president. Drebin has been with the College since 2014.

The Board has hired community college executive leadership search firm Gold Hill Associates to conduct the national search to replace Preus. This is the same firm that brought Preus to BMCC in 2013. Green said she does not have interest in the permanent role. The Board expects to have a new president in place no later than July 1, 2019.
