New Computer Science Cert/Degree Options

A message from Stan Beach - Computer Science

I'm excited about the new AAS in Business Administration with Web Development option that will be available starting this fall.  Within that program there is a shorter, less than one year, Web Assistant Career Pathways Certificate which consists of four courses: CS125i, CS195, CS295, and CS133j (along with prerequisites CS120 and HD109).  CS125i is a digital imaging course which focuses on web implementation of Photoshop.  CS195 and CS295 is our web design sequence which covers HTML, CSS, and PHP - all with a raw coding component, and instruction using industry-standard Dreamweaver CS6.  CS133j is our new JavaScript course which will be taught by our new math and CS instructor, Peter Hernberg.

In 2014-15, we will be adding a data management course and web multimedia course to our offerings at BMCC, as well as CWE opportunities to work with local businesses to develop their websites.  We also hope to offer Adobe ACA Certification for Dreamweaver and Photoshop for students that want to go in that direction. Future plans for the CS department include adding courses and degree offerings in programming (Java and C#), graphic design, networking, and mobile app development.

By keeping expectations high and course offerings similar in content to other local colleges, students can take courses at BMCC that are easily transferable to other Oregon colleges and universities.  We hope to continue to grow our partnership with EOU and local businesses, to provide training and skills that will serve our students and community well.
