Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation Awards Grant to BMCC

The Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation has continued its support of Blue Mountain Community College Hermiston with a $5,000 grant to purchase exercise equipment for their new Wellness Center. An earlier gift of $250,000 from Good Shepherd earmarked $50,000 for renovation of the existing Columbia Hall ‘great room’ to create a more usable area with a hard surface floor. The remaining $200,000 supported building Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center science labs.

Renovation of the Wellness Center is occurring in tandem with construction of the Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center and will be operational in time for winter term classes. BMCC Hermiston will expand their current physical education offerings to include Better Bones and Balance, step aerobics, kettle bell full-fitness training, and stability balls.

Vice-president Margaret Saylor said, "In addition to being able to offer local residents more opportunities for exercise and wellness regimens in a well-designed and better equipped space, we also plan to use part of the room to offer emergency medical and health courses, which require non-carpeted, more easily sanitized space."
