BMCC STUDENTS LEARN ETIQUETTE AT RAPHAEL’S

A right of passage for students in the TRiO program at Blue Mountain Community College is the spring term etiquette dinner. For the fifth year, Raphael Hoffman, owner of Raphael’s Restaurant, served a five-course dinner to 11 TRiO graduates and graciously directed the dining experience by demonstrating polite behavior, the proper use of utensils and napkins, and fielding questions about proper etiquette. TRiO staff provided instruction regarding how to handle a job interview along with a meal.

TRiO director Donna Richardson rates this experience as invaluable to the first generation, often times lower income students she serves. "Our students need to learn the art of small talk and how to handle themselves in this environment," said Richardson. "Dining at Raphael’s is a life lesson and a confidence builder as well."
