BMCC Announces Staff Awards

Recipients of the annual Blue Mountain Community College ‘Making a Difference’ award were announced at an all-staff training. Recommendations are received throughout the year. The 2009 recipients made the final selection from a long list of candidates and announced the winners.

Math instructor Dr. Jim Whittaker received recognition for his energetic support of student success, his strong advocacy for tutoring, and his development of multiple intervention techniques to improve student attendance, test scores, and pass rates.

As executive assistant to the president, Tammie Parker had proved herself to be a problem-solver extraordinaire with an exceptional work ethic, high professional standard, and highly refined multi-taking skills.

Jayne Ann Patterson has worn many hats. Her current one is as academic secretary to the faculty and coaches in the McCrae Activity Center. As a front-line employee her positive attitude, ability to work with everyone, and tenacious work ethic makes her the ‘go-to person’ for everything.

Financial aid director Karen Graybeal has put BMCC on the community college map for having one of the fastest turn-around times for awarding financial aid to students. Karen’s endless work hours make a real difference to literally hundreds and hundreds of students each term.

Library assistant Erik Jensen received accolades from his peers for his exemplary outreach to off-campus students, his knowledge, his ability to find creative solutions, and for his community outreach from hosting two ‘Gaming in the Library’ events.
