Peer and Professional Tutoring FAQs
BMCC offers free tutoring services to current students enrolled in degree/certificate programs. Tutoring is available on a drop-in basis during scheduled tutor hours at any of our campus locations. Locations that do not have tutors have Interactive TV (ITV) tutoring available by appointment only. In addition online tutoring is available through Elluminate live with our tutors by appointment only. BMCC has also recently purchased tutor.com, an online program that provides students 24/7 access to live tutors. To use tutor.com log into your student wolfweb account and click on the tutor.com icon located on the right hand side of the screen, or click on the following link http://bluecc.edu/tutor-com . Tutor.com provides assistance in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and GED Prep.
A schedule of tutored classes is sent out to students via their blue mountain email account and is also available online and in the Student Learning Center.
Tutoring resources are limited and the following guidelines are being implemented to facilitate maximized tutoring opportunities for all of our students.
- Tutors are available only during the times they appear on the schedule. This schedule is subject to change at any time, reasonable attempts will be made to notify students of any changes to the tutor schedule.
- Students may schedule appointments over the telephone, by email, or in person for Elluminate Live or ITV sessions. No phone tutoring is offered. ITV and Elluminate live tutoring appointments must be scheduled at least 5 days in advance, no exceptions. This allows opportunity to maximize the session by filling it with as many students as possible.
- While the Student Success Advisor (SSA) will strive to accommodate students’ requests for tutoring services and individual appointments, there may be times when this is not possible. Most courses have tutors available but some have limited opportunity.
- If a student is unable to attend a scheduled session they are required to contact the SSA at least two hours in advance. If the scheduled session is not attended for two consecutive sessions and notification has not been given to the SSA, scheduled tutoring for that student will be canceled for the remainder of the term and the student will need to appeal to the SSA to request re-instatement of services.
- Students who are 20 minutes late to the scheduled session will be considered to have missed their appointment.
