Placement Assessment & Testing
Placement Assessment
Before you may register, in order to ensure that each student has the greatest chance to succeed academically, new students are required to take the Placement Assessment that assesses skill level in Math, Writing, and Reading. The assessment scores are helpful to your Academic Advisor and provide a basis for your educational plan. BMCC's Placement Assessment Scoring Information is available here.
You may not need to take the Placement Assessment at BMCC if you have ever:
- Taken a placement assessment at another higher education institution.
- Taken a dual credit class through your high school for college credit through BMCC.
- Taken a Math, Writing, or Reading course from another higher education institution.
Placement Assessments are generally available on a walk in basis; however this varies by BMCC Location. Contact the location near you for current times.
The placement assessment is a self-paced, computerized test designed to determine the student’s level of ability and is used to assist in course placement. It is not a pass/fail exam. There is a $10 fee for the placement assessment. Retake fee is $5.
