Student Emergency Loans

Emergency Loans are available for students in need of financial help, primarily between the start of classes and when financial aid refunds are mailed. A student may, in very rare instances, access an emergency loan without the benefit of forthcoming financial assistance.  The primary purpose of these loans is for the purchase of required books and supplies in the BMCC Bookstore and are provided in the form of a bookstore voucher.

If you will be receiving financial aid in excess of your tuition, fees and books you must show:

  • There is a need for the emergency loan that cannot be put off until when financial aid awards are made.
  • The need is unexpected or the result of another unexpected expense.
  • The amount of the loan can be covered by the excess financial aid after having paid your other education expenses.

If you will not be receiving financial aid, or if your award is or will be LESS than your tuition and fees, you:

  • Must show you have a plan for, and the ability to repay the loan.
  • Must sign a promissory note.
  • Must repay the loan within 60 days after the loan is given. Failure to pay will result in a financial hold on your account. If at the end of the term (after the initial 60 days), you haven't repaid your loan, your student account will be placed on financial hold and you will not be allowed to register for the following term. Additionally, you will be subject to BMCC collections procedures.

To request an emergency loan, complete the Emergency Loan Request Form and return it to the BMCC Foundation office, Pioneer Hall, Room 116. Requests can take 2 to 3 days to be approved. Students can check with the Service Center or any BMCC location office, 48 hours after submission to see if a Bookstore voucher is available for them to pick up.

A student may be refused a loan if they are accessing the emergency loan account more than once per year. Loans can be made up to the amount of financial aid that exceeds your tuition and fees up to $750.
