Eastern Oregon Higher Ed Center

BMCC Hermiston currently serves over 5,000 students. Classrooms are generally filled to capacity, particularly for night classes when the majority of working students can attend and when the majority of adjunct faculty can teach.  In addition to needing more classroom space, the urgent need is for science, biology, physical science and computer labs so students can stay in Hermiston to take required classes instead of driving to BMCC Pendleton.  For over five years BMCC, Eastern Oregon University, and the City of Hermiston have been working to secure funding to build the Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center.

Current Project Status:

  • Sletten Construction has been selected as contractor and they are all set to begin building!
  • BMCC hired Mahlum architect firm.
  • The building will be about 27,000 – 28,000 square feet with 3 science classrooms and 10 general purpose classrooms.
  • The City of Hermiston transferred 6.7 acres of land to BMCC for the building.
  • The building will cost $8.5 million, with $7.4 million coming from state lottery backed bonds.
  • BMCC will hire a general contractor fall 2010 and the building will be complete by September 2011.
  • EOU is a partner in the building and will offer programs as a tenant (BMCC will own the building).
