Karissa Williams has been chosen to represent Blue Mountain Community College as an Oregon Community College Association scholar.

As the mother of two young children and a disabled husband whose condition was worsening, Karissa Williams knew she could not continue supporting her family on her current earnings. With that economic realization, and a Blue Mountain Community College center in her community, she went back to college for a nursing degree.  Karissa will graduate with an associate’s degree in June and take her registered nursing board exams.  She plans to work in a local hospital to gain experience before going on for her bachelor’s and nurse practitioner degrees. Her occupation will give her children the economic stability they need and support her husband’s care.  Karissa dreams of opening a free medical in Hermiston and continuing to participate in travel clinics to the Dominican Republic.
