BMCC Holds Boxing Blow Out
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PENDLETON - Blue Mountain Community College’s McCrae Activity Center packed in a crowd of a thousand to enjoy 11 rounds of amateur boxing Saturday night. Out of the 22 fighters, ten were BMCC students and one brave PHS senior, Justine Manning, ventured out to make her mark and help the BMCC Rodeo Team raise over $10,000 to be used for travel to rodeo competitions, scholarships, and hay for the practice stock.
BMCC bull rider RC “The California Raisin” Landingham and baseball second baseman Cal “Frenchy” Vivier won best fight honors. Jay “The Hammer” Velasco, a 29-year-old construction worker from Hermiston, won quickest knock-out, and four-event rodeo cowgirl Kayla “The Krusher” Tiegs won the only ladies match.
American Cowboy Coffee out of Hartville Wyoming, supporter of PRCA pro rodeo and PBR events, was the title sponsor. Two-time world champion bareback rider and company vice-president Clint Corey was on hand to present trophies.
This is the rodeo team’s fourth boxing event.
